Delivery Program budget balancing act
Archived: This tool is now closed, you can still read all about it.
We asked: How would you spend Council’s operational budget?
Council's services
Local councils collect rates and annual charges from property owners to provide a mix of services for the community.
Some services are required because they keep the community safe and orderly, such as mowing our public parks. Others are services we like to have, such as some community care services.
Service levels
The current level of services, such as how often your parks are mowed or how many days the libraries are open, have been determined from previous conversations with the community, but also by ensuring we live within our means.
Like balancing your own budget, there are trade-offs between the money you have and the things you want to do.
Balancing Act
We will show you how every $1,000 of general rates collected is used to fund our current service mix.
Do you want more of a service? Balancing Act lets you increase the spending against it. Prefer less of the service? Decrease the spending.
But remember – it’s a balancing act! You will need to balance your spending across the services.
Your submissions will inform Council's service review program for the upcoming Delivery Program 2022 - 2026.
